-How does desertification affect people in Africa?
People are starting to notice how much desertification is affecting their everyday lives in Africa. The citizens realized this was happening to the Sahel region between 1968-1973 when a severe drought hit the area. The drought is not the only reason of this change; with the growth of Africa’s population the desertification process is happening even quicker! In fact in 1999 people began to move towards the Nile River. A climate refugee is someone who is forced to flee from their homes because of long term or sudden change in climate. Many of Africa’s citizens are leaving their country because of this process and they know that if they stay, their survival outcome will decrease. For example, 1,500 Somali refugees a day arrive in Kenya to get out of the major drought in their homeland! The desertification process has affected people majorly in Africa.

Plants and animals are both affected by desertification because they are losing their habitats to this dreadful process. Plants are being vanished and cut down from humans. When they are cut down from humans this increases the possibility of desertification happening. Although plants and people are being affected animals are too! When you think of animals you may think of their habitat and a lot of animal’s habitats are in trees or plants. When desertification happens many animals loose their lives to this process. But don’t feel so bad animals help cause desertification too!
