Deforestation: Human & Animals
When people go deeper into the rainforests, they are encountering microorganisms with behaviors that are different from the ones previously known to humans. Due to deforestation, animals and plants are losing their natural habitats and are forced to move or in danger of extinction. As primary hosts are eliminated, the diseases are in need of new hosts. These diseases include Ebola and Lassa Fever. These new hosts of the pathogens may be humans, and it could cause a new epidemic in Africa. Scientists will never know if the plants that are destroyed could hold the cure for cancer.
The leading causes for deforestation is, logging, agriculture shifted cultivators, cash crops, cattle ranching, fuel wood, large dams, mining, industry, colonization schemes, and tourism. A vast majority of Africa uses wood for fuel. Therefore, there is a very high demand for wood. They get the wood from deforestation.
Mosquitos are very sensitive to environmental changes in climate because of deforestation. They carry a life-threatening disease called Malaria. For the indigenous people that live in the forest, the disease is a major threat. If they get the disease, it is very dangerous because they do not have the access to antimalarial drugs. Animals may also get this disease.
Sub-Saharan countries in Africa have experienced an unexpected growth in population, which in turn has caused high levels of poverty. Also there has been shortages of resources, especially forest resources such as wood fuel. Since there has been lots of deforestation, forests have lost a lot of materials that normally help it to regenerate. This means that forest resources will be even more limited.
