Deforestation: Effects on Environment
The effect that deforestation will have on the environment is so much more than most people think. The deforestation is a major cause of the erosion in the African region. The erosion in Africa is what causes the desertification in the region, too. Cutting down trees at such a fast rate is depleting the forest faster than they are growing. The bare, rootless ground is the perfect place for mosquitoes to lay their eggs and let their larvae grow. This will raise the chances of malaria in Africa, when it is already a huge concern.
The African forests generate 30% of the Earth's oxygen and if the trees here are cut for the logging industry and for personal fires then that takes away the oxygen and adds co2 to the air. In 1999, it was reported that 4.1 million hectares of trees were destroyed. The machines used to cut down trees create air pollution to the surrounding area and without the trees that were cut down the air pollution will be to much for the plants and animals of the Earth.
