Causes of Deforestation and How it Affects the Environment
Deforestation in an environmental issue in many parts of Africa. This clears Earth's forests and is not positive for the environment and kills many animals. It forces animals to leave their habitats and people need animals for food to survive. But on the other hand, people need firewood, paper, and other resources that may only be found in forests. These resources are produced by trees which we need to survive.
DIRECT CAUSES OF DEFORESTATION
1. Forests covered in agricultural land
2. Logging and timber production
3. Fuel wood consumption
4. Forest fires/wildfires
5. Human settlement

PROS AND CONS OF DEFORESTATION
There are many pros and cons of cutting down trees and deforestation.
PROS
PROS
- Gives people resources like paper
- Provides food for humans
- Gives firewood which is very important in many countries and a main resource
- It gives people employment and jobs which increases standard of life
- Gives animals grazing areas for farmers to produce meat and other food
- It forces animals out of their habitats and homes
- 20% of global warming is caused by deforestation
- Without trees, there is more carbon dioxide in the air
- It causes soil loss therefore, there are higher chances of flooding and landslides.
- Deforestation can cause food scarcity, and possibly even extinction in extreme cases
AMAZON RAINFOREST
--Brazil's rainforest is as big as western Europe and it covers 60% of the country's land
--Deforestation is up to 6% in 2004 in the Amazon
--Amazon deforestation hit record high number in 1995 and it shrank a previous record of 11,200 sq. miles of degraded forest
--Government officials are expecting the numbers to raise by 2%
--Last year the government said that 9,500 sq. miles had disappeared in the rainforest
--Environmentalists were shocked when the Brazilian gov. $140 million dollars towards cutting down trees
--The rate of deforestation since 2004, has fallen
by 80%
