What the Land Use to Be
· Desertification is a process where a region's land is turned into desert and drains the land life-supporting capabilities
· It is usually caused by human activities for example deforestation. There are many other causes too, such as loss of vegetation, increasing erosion, salinization of topsoil or water, and declining ground water.
· The Sahara desert was once grassland, but turned to desert after a thousand years of drought and high climate. Changes in the earth’s orbit also plays part in changing the Sahara deserts land.
· A current region being affected by desertification is the Sahel, lying south of the Sahara desert.

To Hot For Land to Handle
· Climate change is one of the main problems relevant to this desertification.
· Plants dry up as the moist soil hardens.
· As the heat rises, most of the water in the ground is sucked up and the land dries out.

How Can We Help the Land
· There are not many known ways to reverse desertification other than avoiding it from happening by keeping the soil moist and not robbing the soils nutrients by over cropping.
· You could also help prevent desertification by not letting your animals over graze the land.
